SAM HENDRIX, DVM, SURGEON
- Dr. Sam Hendrix was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico but was raised in southern Colorado near Durango. He spent much of his younger years around horses and he has fond memories of packing in the back country with his family. After beginning college, his dream of a career immersed in the horse world found him at Colorado State University where he completed a double major in Biology and Equine Science in 1997. During his undergraduate years he worked at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital where his passion for equine medicine and surgery continued to strengthen. He was admitted to veterinary school in 1998 and completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. A one year internship at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Center, a large referral clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, followed. He then found himself back in Fort Collins enrolled in a 3 year specialty residency training program. Dr. Hendrix completed his Masters and Residency training in Equine Surgery and Lameness at CSU in July of 2006. He was then hired on as faculty to help train students and residents in the clinics. As a member of the Surgery, Emergency, and Critical Care Team, he spent thousands of hours in the surgery room honing his skills in the treatment of such diverse conditions as fractures, colic, joint conditions, reproductive disorders, and trauma. He also spent numerous hours diagnosing and treating a wide array of equine lameness and athletic injuries.
It was during his faculty position at CSU that Dr. Sam Hendrix had the opportunity to work with Dr. Wright and explore the idea of relocating to Park City.
Dr. Hendrix is the first equine veterinarian in Utah to have completed a residency in equine surgery and lameness.
