CHARMIAN WRIGHT, DVM, PRESIDENT
Dr. Charmian Wright was born and raised in the Salt Lake valley. Dr. Wright has been intimately involved with horses her entire life. She considers it poetic justice that her parents met in the riding club at Northwestern University. She picked up the family passion for horses very early on, began riding alone at the age of 5, and got her own horse at 10. For almost 3 decades, Charmian and Boo had endless adventures together, including riding down the halls of her high school, starring together in the school play, winning in competitions from barrels to trail and jumping, traversing the wilderness alone for a month at a time, riding to school as a freshman at the CSU veterinary college, getting married on horseback, and riding as a veterinarian in everything from parades to cattle drives and wagon trains. Getting to know her family’s veterinarian at a very early age inspired Charmian to follow the same path. After two years at Westminster College and a brief hiatus to attend the Farrier College of California, she headed to Utah State University. Completely financing her way by shoeing horses, she completed her undergraduate work at Utah State University with a double major in Biology and BioVet Science. She graduated summa cum laude and was immediately accepted into the veterinary program at Colorado State University. Charmian concentrated in equine electives while doing her studies, gained further education at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky as well as Santa Barbara Equine Practice, and graduated magna cum laude in 1986. After finishing her veterinary degree, Dr. Wright traveled throughout the west searching for the right place to work and call home. She interned for two winters at the polo fields in Palm Springs, and after turning down many jobs that just didn’t feel right, her journey brought her back to Park City and she started her own equine practice with the same vision and dedication that continue to drive her 24 years later. In 1991, Charmian started the first camel trekking business in the western hemisphere. This unique venture lasted for 10 years and camels continue to be a passion for Dr. Wright; she is one of the premier international consultants on camel medicine. In 1994, Dr. Wright began apprenticing with an equine dentist and discovered a special interest in this field of equine medicine that she has been pursuing ever since. To date she has done advanced dental work on over 7,000 horses.

Dr. Wright's latest adventure was the construction of Mountain Horse Medical Center, a long term project which was completed in July of 2009. She is extremely proud of the Mountain Horse Medical Center team.
