OWNER'S MESSAGE
I have been a horse owner all my life. Horses define my life. I simply cannot imagine a world without them. Amongst all the horses I have had throughout the years, I am incredibly lucky to have owned not one, but two “horse of a lifetime” companions. The first was an Arabian-POA cross, named Boo, who carried me for thousands of adventurous miles and for twenty-eight years—from childhood, through college and veterinary school, and well beyond into the tenth year of my professional career. That extraordinary animal opened up whole worlds for me and put me on the path to opportunities that I would have never dreamed possible. My second “once in a lifetime” horse, Mo, is a ten year old Tennessee walking horse stallion who I have owned since he was a weanling. Except for his deep bay color and floating gait, I would swear that he was a reincarnation of Boo. Same courageous spirit, same wit, and same sparkling vitality…
Horses can give a gift unmatched by anything else—they remove us from our hectic worlds and seem to carve out for us a shelter of quietude where time can almost stand still. They are a grounding rod to the essence of the physical world. Throughout my entire career as a veterinarian, my professional guidelines have always distilled down to one single thought: what would I do if this were my horse? That is the philosophy I started with, and this standard continues to be my touchstone twenty-two years later. Because of this, I am dedicated to the principle of respect—respect for the animal, respect for the owner, and respect for the unique affiliation that they alone share.
